Causes of Epilepsy.

Epilepsy is a disorder with many different causes. Some possible causes are brain illnesses to abnormal brain development. Epilepsy can also develop if there is an abnormality in the brain's wiring, and bacause of an imbalnce in neurotransmitters. There are some types of Epilepsy that is an inherited trait.

The types of Epilepsy that are inherited are Generalized Epilepsy, and Localization-Related Epilepsy. Generalized Epilepsy is where an EEG pattern shows that both sides of the brain are involed at the beginning of the seizure. Localization-Related Epilepsy, or Focal Epilepsy, is when the EEG pattern shows seizures beginning in a single area of the brain.

What is Epilepsy?

Epilepsy is a brain disorder where a cluster of nerve cells, or neurons, signal abnormally. The normal pattern of neuron activity is disrupted. This disturbance of neuron activity can cause seizures, lasting from a few seconds to minuets.
